Discipleship in Being Led by Holy Spirit
Sunday, November 27, 2022 – RECAP/Study Points Assistant Pastor Dewayne Freeman
Pastor Mike said last week that this week would be a week of Supernatural…God is putting His Super on our natural. He said that one of the greatest blessings is leaving home and coming back. It’s amazing because there are so many supernatural things that took place this week. There are some people who when you talk about the supernatural think “spectacular,” because they assume that the Supernatural is spectacular. They are correct but incomplete because the Supernatural is spectacular, but it’s not limited to just the spectacular. For example, taking your marriage to another level is supernatural, however, most don’t see that as being supernatural because it’s not spectacular to them. Supernatural is when you are doing things above your natural abilities. That’s God putting His super on your natural and making it supernatural. Let’s thank God for His Super be on our natural!
God wants to put His super on your natural, so you can make an impression in the lives of others. You’re not just here to fill up space; you’re here for a purpose. God does not want you and I to do life in our own ability because life will take advantage of you. When God’s super is on your natural you will have the advantage in life.

John 16:7-8 (NKJV)
- Jesus said it is to your advantage that I depart
- What other words come to mind when you think of the word advantage? Benefit, favor, upper hand
- Jesus also said, when I depart, I will send the Holy Spirit… Did Jesus depart? Yes
- The Helper is here to give us the advantage in life.
- In verse 8… He said when the Holy Spirit comes; He will convict the world of sin. Notice there is no “s” on sin. Jesus is talking to His people. He’s telling them that the Holy Spirit is only going to convict the world of (1) sin. Not sins.
The Holy Spirit is not dealing with the world regarding homosexuality, fornication, and all of the sins that are going on in the world that most believers talk about when they are ministering to the world. When you are ministering to someone and you start telling them what they need to stop…i.e. smoking; drinking, fornicating or you’re going to bust hell wide open, that’s just you speaking. Holy Spirit is not working with you, and you’re wondering why they are mad with us and are saying that we are judging them. The only sin The Holy Spirit will convict them of is not believing in Jesus.
We should be going to the world with the message of the goodness of God, how good God is, and how God has already prearranged the good life for them to have. And when you start talking about God’s goodness and God’s love towards them, the bible says that it’s the goodness of God that causes men to repent. (Romans 2:4)
In verse 13, where it says, He will guide you…He’s talking to the believers. A guide is a person who shows someone the way. There’s nothing like a good tour guide who has some experience, knows all the information, that has some excitement with them, and can pull everybody in.
When you hear “you” in this verse, it’s personal. Holy Spirit is now your personal guide, He wants to give you the upper hand (advantage). That’s why Jesus said it’s to your advantage that I go because if He would have stayed, He could only have been with one person at a time.
However, by Him departing and sending the Holy Spirit; the Holy Spirit could be with Lottie, Dottie, and Everybody at the same time. This personal guide knows everything about everything, and that’s Who God says He wants to teach you. He will guide you into all truth, and the truth that you know is designed to make you free.
Holy Spirit spoke to me some years ago and said, “I don’t get all the credit that I deserve.” And I said, “what do you mean by that?” Growing up in my dad’s church, we used to have testifying service. I watched how it was done, and I tried to find a problem. And when they came to me, I said, “First giving honor to God, who’s the head of my life….” I’m telling them, “You know, last week, I had bad flu. I was so knocked down; I was praying to be healed, and then I would say, flu got me closer to God…then I sat down.
Upon finishing the Holy Spirit said, “Oh, since when have you given problems the credit that I deserve? When have you started giving them My credit?” What are you saying (Holy Spirit)? He said, “Yeah, I was with you, I was the one that you were talking to, and I was talking to you, telling you what to pray to get out of that. Now you get out, and you give the problem the credit.”
Holy Spirit said, “I will be with you in trouble.” He’s in there with you to lead and guide you out of trouble. And now you get out of trouble, and you’re going to give the credit to trouble?
There’s only (1) teacher for the church and He is the Holy Spirit. Carnal and fleshly people need something outside of He, Him, Holy Spirit to teach them.
Notice in verse 13, He said that He will tell you things to come.
In John 14:12 Jesus told them that when He, Holy Spirit, will come, greater works you will do. He said, “because I go to my Father, now you can do greater works.”
So, The Holy Spirit is Jesus in His unlimited form.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)
11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peach and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (MSG)
11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out-plans to take care of you, not to abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.”
God is saying, “I’m not going to abandon you. Abandon means to disown you; I’m not going to give up on you.” I’m reading this…I have it all planned out. This is what I heard; plans are a sign that you or someone has already scheduled a destination.
If you listen to people and you ask them where they’re going, if they can’t tell you, they haven’t scheduled a destination. Anytime you hear God say, “I have it all planned out…” God is telling you at the same time, “I’ve already scheduled a destination for you. And this plan is scheduled to get you there.”
When some people get off track, they get thrown off, and they stay in the pig pen because they think you’re no longer worthy. You think God can’t use you anymore. And God is saying, “Hey, I haven’t abandoned you. I haven’t given up on you.
I don’t change My plans because of your sin.” Just because you sin, that doesn’t cancel out God’s plan for you. So, get yourself up, and let’s get to the destination.
God has something good on His mind, and it’s starting now. If you would just lean into, He, Him, Holy Spirit while you are here and the voice is talking to you, the voice is talking to someone else that God is going to set up an appointment with you that’s going to cause increase and promotion to come to your house.
Proverbs 4:12 (TPT)
12 Your progress will have no limits when you come along with me, and you will never stumble as you walk along the way.
- Progress means forward movement and increase.
- He’s saying your increase, or your forward movement, will have no limits.
- If you start believing God and stop looking at what you can see and start talking about what The Holy Spirit is saying, you will begin to see the power of God work on your behalf.
- I was over there with Abram in Genesis 13, me and Abram were talking one day, and I’m telling him, “You didn’t have a bible; you just had a voice.” So, while I’m talking to Abram, God told me this; he said, “the Bible, the 66 books in your hand, is not enough for you to live a fulfilled life.” The 66 books are the basics, the principles, and the guidelines that will keep you on the right path. The 66 books are just general, but His voice is detailed. The 66 books will tell you, don’t marry an unbeliever; marry a believer. But the voice will tell you, don’t marry that believer. Sometimes people come into your life that doesn’t mean you any good. The Bible says to show yourself friendly. The voice of The Holy Spirit will tell you, go ahead and show yourself friendly, but keep your distance from that one.
When God told Abram to leave his family, He gave him some instructions. Abram did not follow the instructions. Abram took his father and took his nephew. (Genesis 11 & Acts 7).
So, when he took his father along, his father started leading the way. And his father got to a particular place, and all of the sudden, the father died. Then in Genesis 12, the Lord spoke to him again and told him to get up. This got my attention that he took his daddy. Abram’s daddy’s name is Terah and it means “delay.” Therefore, when Abram took his daddy along, thinking he was doing a good thing, he was really taking somebody who was going to delay him getting to his destination. How many people are you hanging around, not going your way, and you’re having fun right now, and the fun is just the pleasure to blindside you to keep you from getting to your destination?
Genesis 13:8-11, 14-15 (NKJV)
- v. 10 Lot left because of what he saw.
- v.14 Abram left because of what he heard.
Now notice when Lot left, the voice started speaking to Abram. And this is what the voice said, “Abram, look from where you are.” Now I’m listening to that, and all of a sudden, this jumped out at me. God said, “notice what I didn’t say; I didn’t say look at where you are; I said look from where you are.” He said, Dewayne, you can listen to people’s language, and you can tell why their faith is not operating because you’re either going to look from where you are or you’re going to look (at) where you are.
People who look at where they are say,” I know the Lord is going to make a way somehow. Know He’s going to heal me.” You’re looking at the place where you are.
When you look from the place that you are, this is what you say when sickness and disease attack you, you say,” with His stripes, I am healed.” When your financial situation is jacked up, you’re not looking at where you are; you’re looking from where you are. You say, “I am rich…my God shall supply every one of my needs according to His riches in glory. I walk in wealth; I walk in health.” This is how faith talks… When you are being led by Holy Spirit!!!
