Discipleship in Tithes/Offering
Sunday, July 17, 2022 – RECAP/Study Points
I have a matter of great and critical concern for my life and this ministry that will take place on Tuesday (July 19th) around 1:30 pm. I’m asking you to be praying for me.
Prayerfully consider (even if you haven’t considered) joining SOFBI. I’m preparing you for your next. Some of you should connect by virtue of this admonishment and announcement that I’m suggesting that you consider. Some should just do it, and others pray about it.
Fortuitous means by chance or happenstance. Too many people are increasing by chance, and you should be increasing on purpose and by way of principle. When I’m in the Word, I can have increase by will. I’ve been inquiring of the Lord about the tithe. I really wanted to know the difference between it being a tenth and its true symbolism.
Tithe means tenth. I have said I have been tithing 30 – 40%, but you can’t tithe 30%
– 40% when the tithe means tenth. That was erroneous; I have given 30% of my income, meaning I have given 20%, and I have tithe. All that I have belongs to God. The tenth is His, and the decision of the ninety is mine. God values his tenth.
Some say it’s easier said than done. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. Some no’s are of the devil, and I don’t mind some no’s because some no’s are of God. Not that God ever wants to tell me no, because all the promises of God are yes and amen. Most of the time, when you’re asking God for something, and He says no, it’s because you asked amiss (outside of His Word). Anything outside of the Word, you can expect to hear no. Sometimes, you don’t have clarity. Hold on to Proverbs 3:5-6 throughout this week. Because you don’t know everything, I don’t know everything. I don’t always know what’s best for me as it relates to pulling the trigger on any one thing. But He knows what’s best for me.

My days of saying I tithe 30% are over; I can only tithe that which He asked for. Leviticus 27:30 (NKJV) God said the tithe belongs to Him. It is the Lord’s, and it is holy.
Tithing is before the law, in the law, and after the law. The Apostle Paul addressed the tithe issue in the New Testament in the book of Hebrews 5,6, and 7.
I want you to engage this today as if you have to teach it, even if you have to teach yourself. Two people that rejoice about the conversation of the tithe, one that enjoys the body of Christ having the discussion, and the revelation that has come from the conversation that has enforced what I’ve already known. Then there is another group rejoicing; they never wanted to tithe. They thought tithing was not under the New Testament. They said tithing was under the law. That is a spirit of stinginess. When He becomes Lord, you forfeit the right to do something based on your own perspective. My perspective may vary from His perspective is thrown out, and I’m embracing and endorsing His view of things. (Example: Bless those that curse you – Luke 6:28)
Ecclesiastes 5:1 We enter in to learn. I come in here with the expectation to learn. I’m going to worship God and fellowship with the saints, but my primary reason for coming to this place is to learn.
Everything we have, God has total access to, but the tenth belongs to Him. He said the ninety is mine, but the tenth, I don’t have an option. The tithe is so we will be reminded, and the offering is so we will respond.
Dr. DeeDee: Poor people plan for a fun weekend; rich people plan for three years of legacy.
Pastor Dewayne: A tenth is a number that represents the whole. When you lift the tenth, what you are saying is what I do with the tenth covers the whole. The tenth affects the rest. What happens with the first also happens with the rest.
Romans 3:31 (AMP)
If this is under the law and the law has been done away with, as some would suggest, then the tithe would have been done away with; Jesus did not come to do away with the law but to fulfill it. How about honoring your father and mother?
Should we still do that, it was under the law? Paul talks about that under grace. What about thou shalt not steal?
Pastor Dewayne: That was under the law, and it’s still in effect now. Thou shalt not commit adultery was under the law, and we are still talking about it in this dispensation. We are not destroying it; we are really establishing it.
Romans 3:31 (TPT) Who is speaking here? The Apostle Paul.
Romans 3:31 (MSG) We confirm we are under grace but does that nullify the law and some of its practices. When was the last time you brought an ox, sheep, or goat, and we cut them up? Jesus replaced that; he went to the cross and was the ox, sheep, and all of that. He settled that kind of sacrifice forever.
Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) There was much emphasis placed on “Would a man rob God?” To intentionally make you feel like a God robber if you did not tithe. That was never the heart of God; the heart of God is to protect you, not keeping the holy thong inside of the ninety.
Most will say because I’m under grace, I am no longer cursed. Malachi say you are cursed with a curse. Read Galatians 3:13 (NKJV)
Did the man (Jesus Christ) get on the tree? Yes Was he cursed? Yes
For what reason? To fulfill the law.
How did we ever become cursed? I became cursed by virtue of what Adam did. What did Adam do? He committed high treason by eating the fruit, disobeyed God because there was a Holy thing in the garden where God said that’s mine, don’t touch that. All the other things you can freely eat from, just don’t touch this one. Does that sound like the tithe to you? He kept that for himself.
Inside your pocket, inside of your paycheck as a believer, there is something that belongs to God.
Is it a big deal for you to return a rental car? Can you say you better be glad I brought this car back? If you kept it, that’s theft. Can you go to jail? Yes. Would jail be a blessing or a curse? A curse.
The curse and a curse are two different things. Which one have you been redeemed from? The curse (this is the one executed by Adam’s sin) By one man’s sin, we all became cursed. By one man’s righteousness, we all became righteous (by Jesus).
I was cursed by Adam; I was made righteous by Jesus.
Pastor Dewayne: When I looked at their dialogue (it looked like scripture) with the rental car, that I would be cursed with a curse if I didn’t bring it back, but I would be blessed if I do.
Can your choices now become the curse that you live in? Yes
Even though you’re under the blessing, can you curse yourself? Yes, I’m talking about consequences.
Have you heard of generational curses? Examples: poverty, alcohol, premature death, high blood pressure, etc. When you received Jesus, that curse was reversed. Can you still have generational choices? Yes. Does Paul mention anything about curses in the New Testament? Yes, 1 Corinthians 11:29 (NKJV); (KJV); (AMP); (MSG) – there is a choice locked into this.
The scripture says the sins of the father will visit up until the third or fourth generation. If divorce is prevalent in your family, divorce has the right to knock on your door to see what choice you will make. You have been redeemed, but you can still choose it. You’ve been redeemed from the curse of the law, but you haven’t been redeemed from the choice of it. Every time you choose it, it is like sowing a seed. The law of sowing and reaping is still alive. If you sow to the spirit, of the spirit, you will reap everlasting life. If you sow onto the flesh, you will reap corruption of the flesh. (Galatians 6:8 KJV)
The tithe was not done away with; it was the curse of Adam’s disobedience, not what Malachi was talking about.
Pastor Dewayne: When we were made righteous, Satan doesn’t have a right to put a curse on us. What God has blessed; no man can reverse it. When we make decisions outside of the word, the curse will get on us just like on the children of Israel. (Outlined in Numbers 23:19 and Numbers 31)
Genesis 14:18
How did Jesus get to this meeting in Genesis before the law? (Through the bread and wine).
What is it symbolic (bread and the fruit of the vine) of? The body and the blood of Jesus
My voice must be principally primary to you. This is a gateway church; revelation starts out of this place first and spreads abroad.
The symbolism of that which belongs to God was there at the meeting. The body of Christ, which belongs to God, and the tithe that he clearly explains belong to Him. Abraham brought the tithe and Melchizedek, which is a type of Christ based upon Paul in the book Hebrews presented Jesus at the meeting.
Paul talks about the curse that comes on you when you drink and eat of the bread and the wine in the New Testament under the grace dispensation. Read 1 Corinthians 11:18 – 30 (NKJV)
Paul is warning the church of what to do with the bread and wine and how essential for their living.
This is the first mention of the bread and wine, and this is the first mention of the tithe.
Eating and drinking without any kind of reverence is a curse. Corinthians 11:27 – 30 (AMP)
1 Corinthians 11: 27 (MSG) This is to remind you of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. There were consequences that came on from this holy thing. The consequences are not to frighten you; it’s to inform you.
Pastor Dewayne: 1 Corinthians 11:30 many are sick and weak upon you. An unworthy manner it’s the way we partake in it (communion). This warning is because God loves you; he knows when you make wrong decisions, what will come in your life. His love is saying don’t do it this way, do it as I said.
1 Corinthians 11:27-32 (MSG) The fiery confrontation spoken in this scripture is not speaking about hell; you have received Jesus Christ; here, he is talking about the consequences of a decision that leads to the opposite of a blessing.
Why did the tithe show up? Why did communion predate the law? What was he establishing there? Why were tithe and Holy communion marked as these two holy things?
If you don’t sow, you don’t reap. He gives seeds to the Sower. I’m an expert giver. I trust God to take care of me. I don’t trust people to take care of me. God uses people to take care of me.
Genesis 14:20 (NKJV)
You can’t love the world and God. No one should try to impress the world. The world is the lust of the eye, the pride of life, and the lust of the flesh.
Pastor Dewayne: Every moment matters. Pastor Mike shared at the beginning that increasing on purpose and God is dropping some nuggets in here. Pay full attention to it. Those that pay attention and do it are going to be the ones that demonstrate what the Bible was talking about. You will show them what the Bible looks like in modern-day times. Let’s maximize these moments!
Homosexuality is not at prominent as it is in these children’s hearts. Your daughters aren’t lesbians, and your sons are not homosexuals. They are just joining in with what’s happening. It’s a societal decoy. It’s designed to throw them off because it appears to be popular. Don’t give in to the lifestyle with them. It’s only societal bait and influence. Hold your faith course. You call those things that be not as though they are; you have the blessing on you. This is not bashing anyone or any people group; it is bashing the sin. Don’t let your heart be troubled.
Genesis 14:18-20 (NKJV)
Here’s what we use to commemorate the body of Christ, and the tithe is what we use to remember that it was God who brought us out. That holy thing that tithe has a symbol of a reminder just like the communion.
Don’t ever let that tithe go because it will remind you. It was two things brought to that meeting, the tithe and the communion.
Pastor Dewayne: That’s why you have to get a revelation every time you lift your tithes and offer up to God. Just like when Abraham met Melchizedek. Melchizedek was a priest and King. No one was ever that. Now in our dispensation, we have a great high priest. Every time we lift our tithe and offerings to God, we are testifying that God that delivered us out of bondage is still alive today. To know it is to do it; to understand it is to teach it – Aristotle- Aristotle.
Communion is the meal that heals. This is the meal that could hurt. If you just don’t care about what it is symbolic of… just like the tithe, it is a holy thing. Rightfully discern the Lord’s body. We are under grace, and There are consequences connected to this kind of disobedience and carelessness. It’s not to frighten you; it’s to inform you. Do this reverently. The blessing of this time will rest on me and my children.
I want you to soar and prosper. One failed instruction can empower Satan to take everything God desired you to have.
Example: King Naaman, who was instructed to dip 7 times; if he dipped three times and said enough of this, he would have never been healed. It’s nothing like receiving good directions.
