Discipleship in Prayer

Sunday, March 27, 2022 – RECAP/Study Points

I strongly suggest that every one of you become a part of an area of ministry.

Everyone should have a role in this ministry. There are so many different areas that, there is no excuse for you not to be involved. There are some that are specifically marketplace ministers, your role is to go out and gather the resources of this world and support the vision financially. I pray that you discover your God-given purpose so that you can support your ministry.

Dr. DeeDee: “It’s not about you serving in this ministry because we have a need. One of the quickest ways for God to bless you is when you serve others. God always blesses those who have the heart to serve.”

We are where we are today because we serve. The way up is down. The server will be the greatest among you. In every ministry we have been connected to i.e., Dr. Price and many others, we have served.

[After hearing the lesson] every Sunday, I need you to talk to people about the lessons (at least by Monday). As you are leaving, getting in your car – ask someone what are you taking out? I want you to repeat what you have heard. Put it to practice right away. You are talking out what you are taking out.

Dr. DeeDee: This is not difficult, it is just different, but it is work. We don’t always like to put in the work and energy to change but change demands work.”

“Change is inevitable, but growth is optional.” – John Maxwell

If you refuse to change, you will be left behind and growth will not become the outcome of your life. Don’t allow your routine to become your Lord.

Dr. DeeDee: “The enemy likes us to stay in this routine of living so he can get us off. God’s intent is for us to live on a pivot, being able to change at any time to adapt and adjust to any situation to take charge of it. When something comes up against your body, if it goes against your routine and you don’t know how to pivot and stand on the Word, it will throw you off.”

So, I beseech you by the mercies of God that you engage and embrace the Word.

Pastor Dewayne: When people get a revelation and experience the reward of growth, it will cause them to embrace change”.

Three keys to walking in abundance and agape:

  • Make Jesus Lord
  • Deny yourself
  • Be led by Holy Spirit

These 3 things will cause you to have success in every area of your life. If I’m led by the Spirit, I will be able to pivot. If you don’t change, neither will your revelation. If the pain to change becomes greater than the pain to remain, you won’t [embrace change].

Pastor Dewayne: “Most of the church world is teaching the “what” about the bible. What you are teaching us to do is to focus on the “how” and the “doing” parts. A lot of people know what the bible says, but don’t know how to perform it.

Never put anything on the same level as the Word. Prayer is powerful, yet prayer is not on the same level as the Word. Prayer needs the Word to be effective; the Word doesn’t need prayer.”

Nothing should go on the same level as the Word.

Dr. DeeDee: “If you set yourself to know who He is, you would be able to focus your attention on His Word.”

God’s authority in your life is solely based upon the relationship that you have with His Word.

Example: You prayed, but because you were ignorant of the Word, Satan can call you out on a technicality. Ignorance is no excuse for [breaking] the law.

Dr. DeeDee: “When you speak, “Lord, teach us to pray”, and the definition of prayer is simply communicating to the Father and Him talking back to us. When we put that in the natural it will teach you how to communicate with your husband, friends, and children.

Everything in the spiritual is replicated in the natural. There are times, I want to say something however if it’s not received the right way, if I don’t engage the right way, or at the right time, I will not see the results that I want.”

Dr. DeeDee has been trained on how to communicate with me and she can get whatever she wants from me. Don’t miss this: if I talk to God right, if I understand the rules of engagement with God, He will give me whatever I desire. Equally, she (Dr. DeeDee) has trained me.

People miss it all the time in their communication and there are things God isn’t pleased with and He is communicating it to us, and we are failing to respond. A lack of communication with God is crushing the communication at your house.

Dr. DeeDee: “We teach our kids how to communicate. I remember every time Brelyn (my daughter) said something wrong as a child, I shared with her there was nothing wrong with what she said, what was wrong is how she said it. I would then tell her that I was going to give her another opportunity to present it better. That is what we are trying to do with you, there is nothing wrong with you going to God, but this is how you say it. We are giving you keys, tools, and principles so you can apply them to your life to get the right results every time.”

Luke 11:1 (NKJV)

  • Verse 1: “Lord, teach us to pray” Highlight this in your understanding.
    • This indicates that prayer must be taught.
    • John (the Baptist) taught his disciples
    • Mike Freeman has disciples, it’s my responsibility to teach you.
  • Verse 2: There is a Father in heaven, there is a father in hell.
    • This is a pattern. Hallowed be your name You are Holy and Sanctified
    • Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth. I’m in agreement with what you have come to establish
  • Verse 3: This lets us know that my God shall supply my need. You don’t have to be concerned about tomorrow
  • Verse 4: God tempts no man with evil… He does not lead us into temptation
  • Verses 5-7: Teaching more about prayer, He uses a parable about a friend asking for bread at midnight for guests at their house
  • Verse 8: (NLT) He is teaching [about] persistence.
    • This is diametrically opposed to what you have been taught about prayer. Discussing the prayer of faith says when you pray, believe that you received, and you shall have it. The principal lesson is that in prayer you must remain persistent in your attitude.
    • [Mark 11:24 (NKJV)]: My question is when will you have them? You have them when you believe that you receive them. However, it’s while you pray. Most pray and when they are praying, they don’t believe they received when they are praying.
  • Verse 9: The moment you get off your knees and say Amen, it is done. How do I pray persistently? By saying thank you Father, I receive. When you say, ‘when is it going to happen?’, it’s an indicator that you haven’t believed that you received.

Luke 11 is NOT the Lord’s prayer; it is the outline to prayer. John 17 is the Lord’s prayer.

Dr. DeeDee: “[James 5:13-16 NKJV] What makes that prayer in James effectual?

Believing makes it effectual.”

James 5:13-16

  • Elders of the church, are not just those who are ordained before you…many of you who are sitting in the pews are Elders of the church
  • Being an Elder has nothing to do with your age, but with your spiritual maturity and experiences in the Word of God
  • The prayer offered in faith will heal the sick
  • Confess your faults one to another… I am still talking about an Elder, someone with [demonstrated] integrity

Dr. DeeDee: “There may be things you are struggling with that you need assistance with. Don’t just take it to anyone. Take it to an Elder, someone mature in the Word. It’s important to have someone to talk to about these things.

Romans 15:4 Those things written in the bible were written for us so that we can have comfort and hope through the scriptures. If it is written in the Word, we need to know it. God knew exactly what we would be struggling with. That’s why it is in here, to cover you, to support you, to sustain you, and to give you a Word that will give you hope.”

This is why praying in the Holy Spirit is so important.

Jude 1:20 (NKJV)

  • Building yourselves up on your most holy faith – one translation says unfeigned faith
  • By praying in the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:26 (NKJV)

  • Helps in weakness (one translation says infirmity).
    • Not knowing what to pray for is a [form of] weakness
  • Holy Spirit will help you pray the perfect will of God concerning that situation
  • Holy Spirit is not an ‘it’, He is a person
